Risk confirm
Before you act on an analysis, ChartLens works out the position size from your account and your chosen risk percentage, shows exactly what a stop-out would cost, and asks you to confirm you have read the condition that would prove the idea wrong.
The maths is the easy part
Position size is money at risk divided by the distance to the stop. Anyone can do that arithmetic; almost nobody does it before every trade. The calculator is here because it removes the friction, not because the formula is difficult.
ChartLens computes it from the plan already on screen — the entry midpoint and the stop are filled in for you — so there is no retyping and no transcription error between the analysis and the size.
What it shows you
- What you lose if the stop is hit exactly, in currency.
- Position size in units of the base asset.
- Position value at entry.
- Reward to risk at the first target, measured from the entry midpoint.
Reward-to-risk is measured from the middle of the entry zone rather than its favourable edge. Quoting the best-case fill is how a 1.8R setup gets advertised as 2.4R.
The checkbox is the feature
The calculator will not let you save the trade to your record until you have ticked: “I know where this is wrong, and I will act on it if it happens.”
That is a deliberate piece of friction. It is the only moment in the flow where the app asks you to commit to something in advance, and it is the moment that separates a plan from a position you will rationalise later.
Risk presets stop at 5%
The picker offers 0.5%, 1%, 2%, 3% and 5%, and nothing higher. Above that it is not position sizing, and offering a 20% option in a tool used partly by beginners would be irresponsible regardless of who asked for it.
People also ask
What is the risk confirm step?
A screen between the analysis and acting on it. You enter your account size and risk percentage, it computes the position size, and you tick a box confirming you have read the condition that would prove the idea wrong.
Why make me acknowledge the invalidation?
Because the level that says you were wrong is the one people skip reading and then argue with later. Reading it before entering is the single highest-leverage habit in discretionary trading, and it takes two seconds.
Does ChartLens store my account size?
It stores what you enter against that analysis so your own record is meaningful, tied only to an anonymous device identifier. Settings has a one-tap delete that removes all of it.
Can I use the calculator without the app?
Yes. The free web calculator does the same maths with no signup and nothing leaving your browser.
